I love southern food and one of my favorites is grits as a dinner side dish. They are the perfect addition for any holiday dinner.
Creamy Grits with Asparagus

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cup Stone Ground Grits
- 4 cups water
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1/2 cup heavy cream or whole milk ricotta
- 2 cups grated cheese, smoked gouda, mozzarella, fontina, or parmesan.
- 2 tablespoons butter
- –
- For Asparagus Topping:
- Tender Asparagus
- Olive oil
- Salt and Pepper
- Cheese, for topping
Instructions
- Bring water to boil, add salt and Grits.
- Whisk until well mixed.
- Bring water to a simmer and let simmer for 20 minutes on low.
- When ready, add butter, cream, and cheese.
- Mix well.
- Place in serving dish and top with Broiled asparagus.

- For Asparagus Topping:
- Toss asparagus in olive oil and salt and pepper.
- Place under broiler and cook until browned lightly.
- Remove and chop.
- Place over grits.
