Christmas Eggnog (cooked)

This one happens to be the best I have ever tasted.

Ingredients
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons water + ⅓ cup water
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 6 eggs
  • 4 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
  • Dash of salt
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 teaspoon hazelnut flavoring
  • 2 Tablespoons powdered sugar
Instructions
  1. Place sugar, 2 Tablespoons water, and lemon juice in a small sauce pan. Bring to a boil and cook until a golden brown. Remove from heat. Add ⅓ cup water and stir until smooth.
  2. Add vanilla, nutmeg, and salt. Still and chill.
  3. In a double broiler, whip together eggs and milk. Then, add the sugar mixture. Stir constantly until mixture reaches 160 degrees. Remove and pout into a chilled bowl.
  4. After mixture has chilled, whip together heavy whipping cream, hazelnut flavoring, and powdered sugar. Add them to the chilled mixture in an egg nog bowl.
