There are a million diets out there that sale you weight loss and better health. Some work, but because there are so many you can tell that most don’t work. I have literally been practicing this plan for along time and especially in the past eight years. In 2012 I had one of those aha moments. I really saw myself and realized that I did now like what I saw. Thus my adventure started. I tried many things and it boiled down to everything I had been taught for years but was not really really doing. I had all the answers, I just needed to take time to listen.

When I started listening to my body the game changed. At that point I was 275 pounds, sometimes less, but most often more. I hated the way I felt, but I justified that because I was a “Chef” I had a good reason to eat everything and after all, most chefs are a little overweight.

I did try a lot of those fad diets. Only to loss the weight and gain it all back and sometimes even more than I lost. Even when I was good to the after program suggestions, I still gained back the weight. Discourageing to say the least. But I was determined to get in shape.

I decided to try an experiment. I know the value of eating whole grains, no matter what they say out there, I have had years of experience eating grains. I love them and know the health benefits of eating whole grains. The culprit was not the whole grains, but the processed foods we eat. They take a whole grain and strip it of any value. Thats the big problem in our food culture. Processed foods devoid of nutrition and fiber.

With that in mind I tried an experiment. I decided to eat all the whole grains I wanted and give up sugar and dairy and processed foods for 31 days. Wow. I lost 35 pounds just like that. I was amazed. And I was worried that after I started eating again I would gain it back. Nope I didn’t, infact I continued to loose weight, not as fast but to the point where I am today.

I weigh in at around 210 to 215 lbs. The secret is that I pretty much eat what I want, but I avoid processed foods, lots of sugar, and I eat limited dairy. I feel great and I am not on a diet. I have just changed my lifestyle. It took and takes some work, but it is well worth it. When I was 275 lbs. I had high blood pressure, Cholesterol, Triglycides, and other health issues. Today I am a pretty healthy man.

It’s not about a diet, it’s about learning to listen to our bodies and acting accordinly. It’s about whole grains and fiber. It’s about having a balance and learning what my personal body needs.
